Canadian Friends of Chernobyl's Children is a
non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to providing humanitarian aid
to areas contaminated by the fallout of the Chernobyl nuclear
disaster. We bring children to
Canada for a healthy respite from their contaminated
environment. We also provide aid and supplies to others living in those
contaminated areas.
For most, the
Chernobyl nuclear disaster of April 26, 1986 is a distant memory, but for some
800,000 people living in the contaminated regions of Belarus, Ukraine, and
Russia, it is a grim and ever-present fact of life. It is estimated that
the soil and food chain in the area will remain contaminated until the
year 2135.
Canadian Friends of Chernobyl's Children is one of many
world-wide organizations that help Belarussian victims of Chernobyl. Since 1989,
more than 150,000 children have been sent for health respites to over 20
countries. These organizations also provide humanitarian aid, medical
assistance, resettlement, physician training, and education.
