Ryu Kyu Kempo is a system that transcends styles

Sinsei Kai Hombu dojo (main dojo) is called 'Budo Kai Karate'. Classes at this location are taught by Sensei Michael Zinck, 5th Degree Black Belt. Weeknight classes consist of two person practice for both adults and children. Our methods are the old style fighting prqactices, or 'Koryu Kempo' that are extremely rare in North America. They are also extremely effective practices that allow the learner to experience practical training with a real partner. By using these 'koryu' methods, students learn to really defend themselves and adjust their techniques as situations vary from partner to partner.

We study anatomy and physiology to better understand the bodies anatomical weaknesses and how to exploit them. All practices are based on sound tatical and mechanical theory. While students of all levels are welcome, higher ranked students are sure to gain valuable information to enhance their knowledge of their own arts or styles.

We are registered with Dai Nippon Butoku Kai and Michael Zinck is an accredited DNBK member

About our style:

Karate is a general term that refers to “empty handed” martial arts of Japan and Okinawa. There are various ‘styles’ of Karate available to learn. The style practiced at our dojo is called Ryu Kyu Kempo Karate. While the sport version of Karate Do is available at other dojos, the old style ‘Kempo Karate Jutsu’ version that we practice is unique in Southern Ontario. We use the Shito Ryu Karate Model as the basis of our Karate Kempo. The style develops speed and accuracy in its’ practitioners and utilizes body shifting, traps, locks and throws.

About the Chief Instructor

Sensei Michael Zinck holds a 5th degree Black Belt in Ryu Kyu Kempo and a 4th Degree Black Belt in Karate-Do. He is also a licensed teacher of Mulan Jien, a style of Chinese Swordsmanship

Michael Zinck began training in 1974. Since then, he has trained with/under some of the worlds most influential instructors. The list includes Fumio Demura-Shihan-8th Dan, Patrick McCarthy-Hanshi-8th Dan, Sam Moledzki-Shihan 7th Dan, Christopher DiLiBerto-Kiyoshi-7th Dan, Ron Day-Grand Master and Yap Theng Hong-Grand Master.

These masters have, or do guide Sensei Zinck as he provides an education in the art of Kempo Karate Jutsu. His classes provide a real context for what is, for the most part, an ambiguous lesson in the practical application of technique and kata.

Dojo owners have asked for his ongoing instruction, which Sensei Zinck enthusiastically provides. As Ryu Kyu Kempo is the root art for what is now known as 'Karate-Do', the lessons are designed to enhance the art you may already know, making it a vibrant, living tradition once again.

Kempo Karate is empowerment. It strengthens the mind and body, teaching us that the real battle lies within.
